Sloth & Sacrifice

Never forget the sacrifice of those who came before you. As children much of the success we achieve in our lives can be attributed to the prior sacrifice of time, sweat, and finances from those who came before us.

We are children of parents, grandparents, cities, counties, states, and nations. The foundation was laid in the past for you to build upon in the future. Respect the sacrifice and honor it with your effort. Your sloth is not only a disservice to yourself, but it’s disrespectful to the past sacrifices that gave you the opportunities in front of you.

As Christians, we can take this concept a step further by applying it to our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The greatest sacrifice of all is the death of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary.

12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” 17 Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts   I will remember no more.” 18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

~Hebrews 10:12-18~

The crucifixion is the sacrifice above all others. Our hope and our freedom is based in this sacrifice. God has presented a great calling to each of us in the form of the Great Commission. So often we look at this commission to preach the Gospel as a burden, but in doing so, we are missing the opportunity. To ignore the call is to disrespect Christ. The price that was paid is far too great, and the opportunity that was provided is far too significant.
